The 4th Turkey IEEE Student Branches Congress

This congress has been very useful for identifying common problems of Turkish Universities’ IEEE Student Branches. Moreover in these 4 days there were useful technical seminars from sponsors (IBM & Microsoft). An important seminar on Leadership was given by Kurt Richter who is the awards & recognitions representative for IEEE Region 8. In the last day, Bogazici University organized an amazing Istanbul Trip. This activity was organized by the Bogazici University IEEE SB and Dogus IEEE-SB participated to all events.
Istanbul IEEE Student Branches Magazine – SİNERJİ Meeting Date; 9 / 14/ 16/ 21 November 2006
In the regular IEEE-SB Istanbul Meeting (May ’05), 12 members from different universities agreed to publish a magazine in Turkish which contained in its first issue articles entitled “What is IEEE”, “IEEE Istanbul Student Branches Activities” and other articles from student members of Turkey IEEE-SBs”. After the “Fourth Turkey IEEE Student Branches Congress”, there were meetings about the financial issues and content of the magazine named “Sinerji” (in English “Synergy”). Now, Sinerji is being published biannually and distributed to all the Universities in Turkey.
What’s going on in the Turkish Telecommunication Sector

Since the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, the telecommunication infrastructure was held by the government; it has been privatized on October 2005, which was a critical decision for the future of Turkey since it is expected that competition will improve the quality of the services and create new employment opportunities. To discuss the issues involved Dogus IEEE SB organized this seminar for providing more information and answers to students’ questions about the recent developments in the communication sector. Seminar was presented by Cenk Alper Nortel & Netas Sales and Marketing Manager and Önder Eker General Manager, SMARTPRO.
Computer Networks Seminar

This seminar included general & basic information about TCP/IP, OSI Layers and the future aspects of Computer Network Architecture. The seminar was presented by Cevdet Isiklioglu who owns a CCNP (Cisco Certificated Network Professional) Certificate and is also working in Industry. Computer Networks, is a topic at the intersection of Electronics & Computer Engineering subjects.
Traditional Diner (Bean and Rice)

In the half membership period (mid of March), 10 new student members joined the Dogus IEEE SB. Diner was very effective for the new members to introduce themselves to the branch.
WIN Fair (World of Industry) ‘06

WIN Fair, was a meeting point of different industrial branches like mechanics, electronics, electrics, automation and chemistry. In WIN Fair (World of Industry), we introduced IEEE-SB to firms and gave them information about the branch activities and projects. In WIN Fair, we also established contacts with new firms and obtained sponsorship for the branch’s technical activities.
Technical Tour to Nortel–Netas Telecommunication Firm

Nortel is one of the most enhanced firms in the world about voice and data integration and processing in the Telecommunication Sector. The aim of the tour was to get more information about data & voice integration and new generation communication approach VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). After 2 hours of presentation by Nortel–Netas engineers, we visited the Creation Center of Nortel and obtained information about the electronic devices (modems, routers, bridges and switches). At the end of the technical tour, members of Dogus IEEE-SB gave their contact information and CVs to the human resource department of Nortel–Netas.
Football Tournament between IEEE Student Branches in Istanbul

This activity was organized by Dogus IEEE-SB to develop good relationship among the IEEE Student Branches in Istanbul-Turkey. It should be mentioned that there are 14 IEEE-SB in Istanbul, and this was a trial for football tournaments with better participation in the future of IEEE Istanbul SBs; it really helped us to relax before the Midterm exams.
Hobby Electronics & Robotics Seminar

In today’s world, electronics are a hobby for many people. By using passive&active electronic circuit components many useful tools used in daily life, like alarm clocks, digital thermometers and chronometers, can be established, The main aim of this seminar was to give an idea to electronics, computer & industrial engineering students about hobby electronics. The seminar was presented by Osman Girgin producer of TV Programs about Robotics.
PROJISTOR 06 Project Contest (Around Turkey)

The purpose of this competition was to provide the IEEE student members and those in similar fields in Turkey with worthy opportunities for meeting and exchanging knowledge, experience, ideas and also to create a medium for them to present their works to others. This competition also aimed to promote good relations between universities and industry. Dogus University, Fujitsu-Siemens, IEEE Turkey and "IEEE Circuit and Systems Society" have undertaken to support this design project competition and to encourage undergraduate students to become involved in the dynamic phases of technological life.
Prizes were First Prize: 1500 YTL , Second Prize: 1000 YTL, Third Prize: 750 YTL

05 – 06 Semester Dogus IEEE Final Diner

After a hardworking year, final diner was provided before final exams. The main aim of this activity was to evaluate the year’s activities and search for candidates of IEEE-SB Board of Directors for the next year. It was the final activity of the Dogus IEEE SB in 2005 -2006 academic year.
ICC ’06 Istanbul

Our aim in participating to ICC’06 was to show our projects and activities to the IEEE Communication Society Members coming from around the World. In the Registration Hall, there was also an IEEE Turkey Stand to inform people in general and about IEEE Turkey activities (some of the participants were not IEEE member) by handing out brochures about IEEE.
